- Willy returns from a salestrip tired and unable to distinguish past from present. Linda suggests he get a desk job.
- Biff and Hap overhear and discuss their displeasure with their jobs. Biff wants to be his own boss, and Hap cannot move up the corporate ladder until his manager dies. They dream about buying a ranch together.
- Willy has a flashback to when Biff was a football star, and the neighbor boy telling Willy, Biff is failing math and could potentially not graduate.
- Willy exaggerates his earnings to Linda then must tell truth.
- Willy relives memories of Linda and then of the Woman. The two become indistinguishable to Willy.
- Biff and Happy talk to Linda about Willy and discover he is borrowing from Charley to pay the bills.
- Bill is told by Linda to respect Willy or get out.
- It is revealed to the sons and the audience that Willy is suicidal.
- Happy and Willy discuss Biff’s business plan, then give Biff advice for his loan interview.
- Willy asks for a desk job and is denied. Attempts to hold the fact that he named his boss (basically saying he has known him since he was born) and is instead fired.
- Willy visits Charley who gives him his insurance money and offers him a job which Willy refuses out of his pride.
- Willy plans to meet his sons for dinner. Biff was denied his loan. Triggers flashback to Biff discovering Willy’s affair leading to Biff not graduating.
- Willy begins planting his garden. Biff tells him he won’t pity Willy if he commits suicide.
- Willy commits suicide by auto wreck to give his family the insurance money.
- Ends with everyone standing over Willy’s grave.
